recently read books
I've noticed several people kicking off the new year by listing books that they've read in the past year and the books they plan to read this year. As usual, I am late to the party. So, without further ado, books I have read in the last year or so (in no particular order):
- Technopoly by Neil Postman
- Calendar: Christ's Time for the Church by Laurence Hull Stookey
- Legacies by L.E. Modesitt, Jr.
- Darknesses by L.E. Modesitt, Jr.
- Flash by L.E. Modesitt, Jr.
- Faith in the Face of Apostasy by Raymond B. Dillard
- The Other Side of Israel by Susan Nathan
- The New Testament and the People of God by N.T. Wright
- Jesus and the Victory of God by N.T. Wright
- Complexity: The Emerging Science at the Edge of Order and Chaos by M. Mitchell Waldrop
- Numbers by Gordon Wenham
- The Lexus and the Olive Tree by Thomas Friedman
- 1 & 2 Samuel by Joyce Baldwin
- Maverick by Ricardo Semler
- Christianity and Culture by T.S. Eliot
- Judges: A Pratical and Theological Commentary by James Jordan
- The Goodness of God: Theology, Church, and the Social Order by D. Stephen Long
- The Call by Os Guinness
- Van Til's Apologetic by Greg Bahnsen
- Christian Justice and Public Policy by Duncan Forrester
- Introducing Radical Orthodoxy by James Smith
- The Abolition of Man by C.S. Lewis
As I look back over that list, I feel sure that I read some of those more than a year ago, but I cannot remember which ones. If I had to pick my favorites, the short list would include Maverick, The Other Side of Israel (an extremely powerful book), Judges, and Calendar. Onto the next list, books to read “soon”:
- First Global Village by Martin Page (was reading, put it down for a long time)
- The Resurrection of the Son of God by N.T. Wright (ditto)
- The Reformation by Diarmaid MacCulloch (ditto)
- The Desire of the Nations by Oliver O'Donovan (somewhere in the middle/end of it)
- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit: Relationship, Roles, and Relevance by Bruce Ware (currently reading)
- The Algebraic Mind: Integrating Connectionism and Cognitive Science by Gary F. Marcus
- The Study of Theology: From Biblical Interpretation to Contemporary Formulation by Richard Muller
