it's the economy, stupid
I remember reading several months ago, when gas prices were running amok, that economic indicators were reading broadly positive. Except that gas prices were a constant reminder to people about the state of their finances, so most people thought the economy was doing terrible. Today, we hear endless litanies about how badly the economy is doing. The Dow is definitely starting to slide downwards...but I drove down the street this evening and gas was $3.25 a gallon. Every time I'm out lately, gas is dropping. So why the dour mood? Where are the headlines proclaiming, “Gas at lowest price in months.”?
