using statistics
Rule number one for using statistics: cite your source for the statistics. Give me enough information to go check your statistics and see if you abused the numbers in citing them. This rule goes doubly so if you are posting in a blog or an article on the web, where you should include a link to the exact text (or report, or whatever) from which your statistics came. If you can't be bothered to give a source, I can't be bothered to read the rest of your argument that depends on the statistics you just cited.
